Running and Essential Oils
I am looking for ways to make things better. I am pretty sure my feet are hurt. I want to help them heal, however, I don't want to do it with ibuprofen, I don't want to become dependent on those pills to log my mileage. That'd be miserable and needless to say a bad thing for my insides - can you say ulcers?
Essential oils have had a long standing reputation for their all natural healing properties. Oils such as Wintergreen, Peppermint and Balsam Fir have great healing properties when it comes to relieving pain, reducing inflammation and increasing blood flow to the injured area. If you are able to find 100% authentic essential oils - oils with zero additives or diluents - you can even take them internally.
Wintergreen is a sort of natural aspirin, because of its high plant originated methyl salicylate content. Peppermint has high contents of Menthol, which is great to increase blood flow topically. Balsam Fir is a little know essential oil that comes from a pine by that name. This is an excellent pain reliever anti-inflammatory oil which I have seen help avoid the need for reparative surgery. It also has returned mobility to work-related damaged shoulders - I have seen it with my own family.
At this time I am working with ice and these 3 oils, we shall see the results, I'll keep you posted. If you are looking for a great alternative and a more natural option to use on your body, then give essential oils a great deal of consideration. A great essential oils needs no carrier oil (unless you have sensitive skin). I suggest you use the Young Living Essential Oils brand. They are more costly than your store brand but your safety has no price. It's a network marketing company so you have to sign up as a distributor but there are no obligations which makes it a pretty sweet deal since you then get distributor prices. They also have pre-made blends for pain you can try if they tickle your fancy.
Young Living has the best quality I have found, and I have had a chance to try tons of different brand. None other feels as natural and authentic - pure if you will. It smells right, not sweet and altered like other brands. And you can actually ingest most of them, it says it right on the labels. You'll have a hard time finding that at the store. I hope this helps. I am also looking into nutritional supplements and see what works during this beginners training and acclimating period, the "adopting stage" of running.
